A breath-taking view of the majestic mountain peaks from the residence or the hotel restaurant, through large windows is one of the greatest visual treats that mountain resorts provide their visitors. Glass is a trending element in architecture, but is often dangerous for birds. The Elements project, which is being developed in Tatranská Lomnica, solved this problem with the unique Ornilux glass, which eliminates the risk of birds hitting the glass.
An effort of the developer of this exceptional Elements project, Kamila Vacek, has from the start been to bring to the owners of Elements residences in the Tatras a new feature in the form of the unique Ornilux technology, developed by the German company Arnold Glas. It is revolutionary and the fact that it prevents birds from hitting the glass panels of windows.
German company Arnold Glas
Founded in 1959, Arnold Glas is one of the largest and most innovative glass manufacturers in Germany. Alfred Arnold, the company’s founder, is the inventor of the first modern ISOLAR insulating glass made with a flexible edge seal. The company has been dealing with the question of how to solve the problem of bird collisions with windows on buildings, vestibules, and corridors since 2006. We knew then that black stickers of birds on glazed areas were not particularly effective or aesthetic.
New Ornilux technology
Arnold Glas has come up with the revolutionary Ornilux technology, which means that the glass is coated with a protective UV filter that birds safely distinguish, yet is invisible to the human eye. The technology is based on the microparticles in the form of a mesh resembling cobwebs, while maintaining the transparency of the windows. Architect Christian Irmscher from Arnold Glas was inspired by spiderwebs to create the innovative foil. The Ornilux product thus enables safe design use of large glass surfaces in architecture. It allows humans beautiful views of mountain peaks and is not an obstacle for birds.
